In the 1930s, rural America had been left in the dark as electricity made its way across the country. Electricity had become a modern necessity, and big cities enjoyed the opportunities this emerging technology brought. But rural folks had to do without.
Into the gap stepped the hardworking men and women of rural America, who formed electric cooperatives to bring power to areas that had been overlooked. In our part of Oklahoma, they formed Lake Region Electric Cooperative.
In the 21st century, new technology is emerging: Broadband Internet. This new technology is transforming lives and bringing economic development to the areas that adopt it. Once again, we have been left behind. Your cooperative must step up to the plate and do what others won't do.
Lake Region Electric Cooperative (LREC) is implementing a fiber-based communication system across our electric grid. With this investment, we can provide fiber-to-the-home internet service through Lake Region Technology and Communications, a subsidiary of LREC. You will enjoy access to the blazing-fast high-speed internet, crystal-clear HD television and unlimited local and long distance home phone.
We have identified several zones across our service area and are collecting expressions of interest that will ultimately help guide our construction plan to expand our fiber network.
We are excited to release several expansion zones in phase 1. However, all of this will take time, estimated years of construction. Provided that we can reach our goal of subscribers for each expansion zone, we will expand our fiber service network. Remember we are building a 100% fiber-optic network that will be scalable for hundreds of years into the future.
The zones that have the most backers signed-up will be the first new fiber optic lines built. Do not wait, this is a great technology, sign-up and completes the online backer form today.
LRTC will waive the $250.00 installation fee for the early online backers pre-registered. For anyone who was not a backer of our Crowdfiber campaign, but signs up for service during the construction phase, we get the installation cost at a discount of $75. An installation fee of $250.00 plus a line extension fee will apply to all new services at that time depending on the distance of the new service from the existing fiber tap.
Backers will have 12 months from the date "service is available" to connect and receive the backer deposit back as a credit. Deposits are refunded if you sign up before construction starts. If you choose not to connect service within 12 months from the date "service is available" you will forfeit your deposit. If you are under contract with another service provider, please contact us and let us know. We can make an arrangement to connect after you complete your contract.
More than 2,600 members are already surfing the web at high-speeds, and your area could be next! Get your neighbors and friends on board to build your zone and join the rural fiber-to-the-home revolution!

What is included in the installation? Lake Region will attach a small gray box NID (Network Interface Device) to the outside of your home. A fiber line will accompany the electric feed to your home connecting your home to the new fiber network.
When will billing begin for my services? Billing for your Lake Region Technology services will begin after final installation is complete and you start receiving service inside the home. Services are billed in advance of usage, i.e., June service will be billed May 1.
Is technical support offered? Yes! Lake Region Technology subscribers will receive free 24/7 technical support on all services by calling 888-326-3035.
Who is completing the construction for installation of service? Lake Region Technology has contracted Ervin Cable Construction Inc. to build the network based on, among other things, their expertise and safety record. Pulse Broadband as our engineering consulting company. Crews will work with Lake Region Electric’s lines, poles and underground electrical locations (where available) to install fiber optics. Once the mainline construction is complete, drop contractors will be running fiber to those who have signed up for the service. At that time, they will also be installing a NID box on the side of the location where the fiber service will be entering the house or building. The final step is splicing all connections and testing signal from a POP building.
What is a POP Building? Point of presence building, these buildings, a located at substations across our service area, act as the main switchboards along our network. They house the devices that power our fiber-to-the-home network. The devices inside these buildings connect our network to the internet.
What is Fiber-to-the-Home? The type of network we are building we will run fiber cable directly into your home and connect to an ONU (Optical Network Unit) inside of your home, which then sends service directly to your devices. We will offer managed wireless service - Wi-Fi as well.
Do I need to be home when the construction crews are working on my property? Not initially. Contractors will be doing all the work outside on your property, including attaching the box to the side of your home, but they will not need entry into your home. However, installers will contact you once construction of your fiber line has been completed to schedule a time for final installation and activation. We will need access inside your home to complete your in-home installation so that we will need someone present at that time.
How do I know when my service is ready? We understand waiting for great new technology is no fun. It is hard for our company to give you a hard deadline when service is available. We are managing several factors; weather, contractor crews efficiency, material availability, easements, and permits as well as engineer and design. We will call you once we have confirmation that your address is complete and has a good signal. You can follow us on Facebook for updates or view our website.

After reviewing our project backers, the demand for our service is showing to be north of Tahlequah in Zone 7 - Sleepy Hollow. At our fiber construction meeting, we have determined to proceed with Zone 7 - Sleepy Hollow. The full build-out of the remaining feeders on the Sleepy Hollow substation is expected to take several months and cover approximately 88 miles of overhead and hundreds of underground drops. The contractors are beginning to build the mainline network in this zone.
We are excited and expect our members are as well! We encourage everyone located in Zone 7 - Sleepy Hollow to sign up. The time is now, and you do not want to miss out on these services; High-Speed Internet, Cable TV, and Home Phone. We’ll share more information as it becomes available.
Meanwhile, here’s what’s going on with construction in other zones:
IN-SERVICE ZONES - service is currently available. Please allow 8 - 10 weeks on in-service area request. Our contractors need to have a few days of work to relocate back into these completed zones.

Fiber optic crews continue to move forward across several zones. Bringing internet with the speed you need, HD TV and home phone service to many more members. We want to thank the members (backers) for their amazing support driving this project. We have connected 2,500 people to our fiber-to-the-home FTTH network. We know we have many more miles and many more homes and businesses we need to connect. We now have five in-service active zones with five more zones under construction with three zones verifying the design and demand. If you live in any of the zones listed below and haven't signed up, now is the time! We want to keep our crews working and connecting more members. If you have any questions please give us a call 918-772-2526.

Where can you get service today?
All Green Zones (in-service) are completed and now require a two-year contract (must own home), or $99 upfront with a 1-year contract or $250 no contract. Fiber construction crews have completed these zones and relocated. A new service request (order) can take 8-10 weeks if your home needs construction in the green zones. We understand this can be discouraging and we appreciate everyone who signed up while crews were working in these zones. Once we have several new service orders in these green zones, our contractor will get a crew back n the area to build your request. We promise the service is worth the wait if you missed out while crews were working in the zone.
Where will Lake Region Fiber be available next?
All Yellow Color Zones we have construction happening now! Please pre-register now before crews finish these zones. The cost is currently a $75 installation (no contract) once crews leave to get connected it requires a 2-year contract or $250.
Active Construction Zones Update

Our splicing crews are busy completing drops in Zone 3 - Keys. Our goal is to schedule 50 installs a week. We will call you once we have confirmed your line is complete. It's time to get excited! Make sure you are registered if you live in the Keys area or south near Lake Tenkiller, you do not want to miss out on these excellent new services!
11:29am February 15, 2018
Time to celebrate something big! We hit 2,000 active customers today and couldn't be more excited! Thank you to Amy Headrick and ShyAnn (longhaired dachshund) for letting us drop by during her in-home fiber optic installation. Keep these pre-registrations coming at register.lrecok.net - 3,000 customers here we come!
1:38pm February 8, 2018
Last year was a busy year with fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) construction. More than 2294 members pre-registered as backers on our Crowdfiber site; we connected 1035 new customers to our network. That is significant progress, and that progress is due to grassroots support from members like you, members knocking on neighbors’ doors, yard signs, and community meetings. Your support continues to move us toward the goal of making reliable, high-speed internet, TV, and phone service available throughout our service territory.
We now provide ultra-fast internet, TV, and phone service in areas of Hulbert, Lost City, Woodall, and east of Ft Gibson, Norwood, Highway 10 and Sparrow Hawk Mtn. You can view our service map online. We also have construction started in Broken Arrow and continuing in Keys. As we move into 2018, our goal is to continue pushing more zones to their goals and to expand our network further into other areas. We anticipate we will be constructing Lake Region’s fiber-optic network in more of these zones.
A project of this magnitude doesn’t come without challenges. We realize that while most areas of our service territory want better internet service, in some places, that want is a desperate need. Frustration, frayed patience, and doubt begin to surface. Lake Region can’t promise that many of you won’t continue to wait another year, two, or even three. These are the realities of building a new fiber network.
Just as Lake Region Electric Co-op carefully budgets to provide safe and reliable power, so too does Lake Region Technology and Communications. There is only so much financing we can obtain, only so much risk we can tolerate, and only so many miles of fiber we can physically build at one time. What LREC can promise you is that your board and the employees will continue to do everything they can to make Lake Region Fiber Optic available to more members. I hope we can count on your continued support too.

Members in Zone 13 - Woodland Hills (BA) should see our boring crews out and about working on Lake Region fiber optic services for our members in Zone 13. They are working as quickly as they can. We appreciate your patience and support as we continue to expand our FTTH network.
10:43am December 1, 2017
For our member-owners in the Broken Arrow service area, progress has started on our first phase to provide blazing fast internet within Zone 13 - Woodland Hills (BA). We begin with setting our POP building at our electric substation; then we install miles of the strand that is attached to our poles. Once we pull the strand, crews will come back and attach the fiber. Then we build the fiber drops to each member who is pre-registered for service. Be sure you are pre-registered and have paid the $50 deposit. If you miss out on the initial build, you may be required to pay a $250 installation cost and line extension cost. If you sign up before we complete construction, you will have no contract and receive your $50 deposit back as a credit on your first bill.
There are many, many steps in the process of bringing Lake Region fiber optic services to our member-owners. Zone 13 - Woodland Hills (BA) is one of the next zones we plan on starting construction. Now is the time to preregister for blazing fast fiber-to-the-home internet, cable TV and home phone from Lake Region. #LakeRegionFiber #jointhecrowd #FTTH

Lake Region's Fiber-to-the-Home project is truly an example of the power of cooperative membership. Without the passion and support of our members, we could not have brought the company to life. It has been amazing to see members from all parts of our service territory express their need for high-speed internet and their appreciation for our efforts.
Fiber builds are expensive, time-consuming, frustrating, rewarding, and more. Every day brings something new, and it is not always easy making sure all members have the chance to be involved in the project updates. We send sincere thanks to every single member for their continued support.
Zone 5 – Perk | The $50 backer deposit is no longer available as the construction phase is complete. This zone now requires a 2-year contract or $250 installation. This zone was the first zone to reach the goal needed to expand our FTTH network. Thank you to all the early backers for launching this zone into service. Zone 5 – Perk was completed in March 2017. Once the construction is completed in a zone, the contractor crews will move to the next zone. Any new service requested after crews have left a zone could take 8 - 10 weeks to connect. We understand this can be discouraging and we appreciate your patience on your fiber connection. We encourage members to sign up before or while construction crews are working in a zone.
Zone 1 - Ft Gibson | Installations are still taking place, our goal has been met, and the installation cost is now $75. Once this zone is complete, the price will increase to a 2 - year contract or $250 installation. Crews are finishing the last remaining service request near the end of the line along Highway 80. If you live in this zone, be sure to register before we complete and the crews relocate.
Zone 2 - Hulbert | Installations are still taking place, our goal has been met, and the installation cost is now $75. Once this zone is complete, the price will increase to a 2-year contract or $250 installation. Crews are working on finishing the remaining drop request in this area, roughly 60 more houses need to be connected. We have connected 325 homes in this zone.
Zone 2 - Hulbert (Expansion North) | We are currently evaluating the feasibility of extending Zone 2 - Hulbert boundary north to reach more pre-registered backers. Be sure you are signed up and registered if you live north of Lost City toward Peggs, $50 backer deposit. These pre-registration “backers” guide our construction plans if we need to expand this zone.
Zone 12 - Sparrow Hawk | Our backer goal has been met in Zone 12 - Sparrow Hawk. The $50 backer deposit is no longer available. The cost has increased to a $75 installation fee. Mainline construction is complete; drop crews are finishing the remaining addresses pre-registered. Splicing and testing is underway. We should start seeing light readings in this zone soon and in-home installations following.
Zone 11 - County Line | Our backer goal has been met in Zone 12 - Sparrow Hawk. The $50 backer deposit is no longer available. The cost has increased to a $75 installation fee. Mainline construction has started in this zone! We are sorry for all the delays and unforeseen issues we had regarding this zone starting construction. This zone was placed on hold for several months. Zone 11 – County Line is a high priority. We understand the frustration and are working to complete this zone as fast and safely as we can.
Zone 3 - Keys | Is well over halfway to the goal needed. Tell your neighbors to get signed up and pay the $50 backer deposit. We do not want another zone to jump your Zone 3 - Keys in the order of zone construction. We have made ready work being completed in this zone. We also have some areas of the Keys zone which have an abandoned cable system we are having to remove and causing a little challenge. Mainline construction is proceeding in this area, Highway 82, Horseshoe Bend Rd, Indian Rd, and Stone Chapel Rd. This zone is next in line in order of zones with the most backers signed up on our Crowdfiber website. Meanwhile, if any other zone passes Zone 3 - Keys in the number of backers, they could be built sooner.
Zone 13 - Woodland Hills (BA) | This is one of our newer up and coming expansion zone. We are seeing a steady increase in pre-registered backers in this zone. If you live in the Zone 13 - Woodland Hills | Highland area please be sure to pre-register and pay your $50 backer deposit and help build on the momentum!
If your community is not listed above, do not worry, with continued support and more pre-registration from you and your neighbors you may be next. The first step to bringing Lake Region fiber to your community is to reach a set goal—become a champion for your community to help spread the word—just ask us how.

To bring Lake Region fiber optic services to our members, we have launched a major construction project to suspend and bury miles of brand new fiber optic cable in rural parts of Cherokee, Muskogee, and Wagoner counties. Please remember we are building a fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network from the ground up. Construction will take time but understand, we are building a network that will last years into the future. We appreciate the patience of all our early backers in this project.
Zone 5 – Perk | This zone was the fastest zone to reach the goal needed of backers to provide service with our Crowdfiber Campaign. Thank you to all the early backers for launching this zone into service first. We would like for you to consider the service is worth the wait.
Zone 1 - Ft Gibson | Crews have just completed a 1550 foot span over the Ft Gibson Lake near Ranger Creek. Fiber crews are now working on building the line on the north side of Ranger Creek (Rocky Haven Dr, Basore Cove Rd, Pistol Point Rd, Banana Cove and north along Highway 80).
Zone 2 - Hulbert | Crews are working on finishing the remaining drop request in this area, roughly 170 more houses need to be connected. We have connected 200 homes in this zone. We are also evaluating the feasibility of extending Zone 2 - Hulbert further north to reach more members. Be sure you are signed up and registered if you live north of Lost City toward Peggs. These pre-registration “backers” guide our construction plans.
Zone 12 - Sparrow Hawk | Mainline construction is finishing up, and we have released the drop request. The members should start seeing crews running service lines overhead and underground to all the addresses registered in this zone. Splicing and testing will also be underway while drop crews are working in the area. Once construction is complete in this zone, new service requests could take 8 - 10 weeks similar to other completed zones.
Zone 11 - County Line | Mainline construction has started in this zone! We are sorry for all the delays and unforeseen issues we had regarding this zone starting construction. This zone was placed on hold for several months. Zone 11 – County Line is a high priority to complete based on all the backers who have pre-registered so long ago. We understand the frustration and are working to connect all the backers in this zone to our fiber network as fast as we can.
Zone 3 - Keys | We have mainline construction proceeding in this area, Highway 82, Houseshoe Bend Rd, Indian Rd, and Stone Chapel Rd. Mainline construction moves a lot faster than drops and splicing. This zone is next in line in order of zones with the most backers signed up on our Crowdfiber website. Meanwhile, if any other zone passes Zone 3 - Keys in the number of backers, they could be built sooner.
The remaining zones are up in the air if we will build them based on the current backers pre-registered. Be sure to help bring Lake Region FTTH services to your area and launch your zone into construction, next, by pre-registering online at register.lrecok.net or calling 918-772-2526. LRTC will waive the $250.00 installation fee for the early online backers. More than 1,600 members are already surfing the web at high-speeds, and your area could be next! Get your neighbors and friends on board.

Fiber builds are expensive, time-consuming, frustrating, rewarding, and more. It is not always easy making sure all members (backers) have the chance to be involved in the project updates. We send sincere thanks to every single member for their continued support, even during the challenges and frustrations.
Response from our members has been extraordinary. We know it can be frustrating for people to realize that their community may not be able to get fiber this year. With more than 3,000 miles of electric lines in eight counties, it will take years to provide service in all LREC communities. The more communities that get active fiber optic service, the more the excitement grows—let’s keep the momentum going.
Fiber is being delivered first to zones who have shown the most interest by pre-registering at register.lrecok.net However; this is just one way we evaluate when and where Lake Region can build. We also evaluate factors that influence overall costs, such as a community’s geography and timeline for seeing a positive financial return on our investment, among other factors.
Phase one is in full swing with 15 expansion zones which have construction crews working in 4 of the 15 zones.
Zone 5 – Perk: This zone fiber construction is complete, contract crews have relocated. Service is available. If a member is interested in service, please sign up on our Crowdfiber website register.lrecok.net. Since construction is complete and the early backer $50 deposit deal is over for this zone, there are three ways to get service connected. A $250 installation fee with no contract commitment, a $99 installation fee with a one-year contract, and $0 FREE installation with a two-year contract. (Early terminations fee of $25 per month for the remaining contract). We have a four to five-week turnaround on request for new fiber service in Zone 5 - Perk.
Zone 1 – Ft Gibson: This zone is still on hold due to the lake crossing project. We will update our backers in this zone via email and website, once we have a clear timeframe of when this lake crossing will be completed and can expect light readings for the remaining backers in this zone.
Zone 11 – County Line: Every day brings something new for this expansion zone. Our electric contractors who had the bid to relocate our electric lines, along the road widening project have quit due to unresolvable differences. We understand the frustration we are hearing from our project backers in this zone. We are now looking at bringing in a new electrical contractor group to complete this project or move forward with our inhouse construction crews. We have a deadline we need to meet for the Cherokee Nation. We will update our backers in this zone once we have a clear timeframe on when the electric work in this zone will be finished, and our fiber crews can start work on this zone. The continued patience and support of our backers is what will make Lake Region fiber optics a long-term success.
Zone 12 – Sparrow Hawk: We have mainline fiber construction crews working in this zone. This zone does have some geographic obstacles we will run into with our construction crews, our goal is to have home installations started in this zone within 90 days. We do have roughly 50 backers in this zone who have signed up but have not completed the registration by paying the $50 deposit needed. If you need to verify please call 918-772-2526. These backers with no deposit will be removed from the backer list if we do not receive the $50 deposit. We are only building fiber optic drops to the houses that are in a designated expansion zone with a deposit on file.
Zone 2 – Hulbert: Home installs have started, we have 47 backers active. Service will be established based on electric substation feeders. We are starting with Hulbert feeder 1 – Shady Grove Road, Killebrew, 710 rd. Hulbert feeder 3 – Grace Hudlin Rd, Highway 51, Clear Creek, Woodland Hills, Groat Rd. Hulbert feeder 4 – downtown Hulbert, inside the city limits of Hulbert, Hulbert Landing Rd. We have over 400 orders and climbing for service in this zone. Fiber build outs are time-consuming.
Zone 3 – Keys: We have mainline fiber construction crews working to connect the Keys POP building with the Park Hill POP building.
2:28pm July 12, 2017
The story has always been the same - our members asked us to provide high-speed internet. We are listening and building out service based on demand. Mainline fiber-to-the-home construction has started in Zone 12- Sparrow Hawk. Please be sure you are preregistered and have a $50 deposit posted. We do not want anything which is interested in service to miss out on this great offer. $50 deposit shows you are interested in service; we will then waive the installation cost and refund your $50 deposit once service is connected. Be sure to help spread the word to all your neighbors they do not want to miss out on this great new blazing fast fiber optic internet, cable TV, and home phone service offered by Lake Region.
2:09pm July 6, 2017
We appreciate your patience as we continue to build our fiber-to-the-home network. Currently, our crews are waiting on special material to cross Ft. Gibson Lake, at the mouth of Ranger Creek. The fiber connection of the remaining backers in the Zone 1 – Ft Gibson | Feeder 4, along Highway 80, is taking longer than anticipated due to this lake crossing. We thank you for your understanding in this major project as we continue to build fiber and as always we appreciate your business.

We appreciate your patience as we continue to build our fiber-to-the-home network. Due to some unforeseen issues with Zone 11 – County Line. First, the Cherokee Nation road project and now Patriot Solutions electric contractors working hard battling rocks and hard digging to relocate our electric lines for the road widening project. This zone has taken a lot longer than we anticipated. We understand the frustration with not completing this as expected. We are happy to report that the situation is improving and we are moving forward with our fiber construction and expect to have installs started in the next 60 days for Zone 11 – County Line. We thank you for understanding in this major fiber project and as always we appreciate your business.

Zone 5 – Perk - is complete. 292 members have been connected to fiber in this zone. (Zone will be closing soon, contractors will relocate) Installation is $75 for this zone currently and will change once crews relocate. The turnaround is 3 to 4 weeks for a fiber drop and installation to be complete if members sign up in Zone 5 – Perk.
Zone 1 – Ft Gibson - Mainline work is 90% complete. Fiber drops and splicing work is underway. Installation is $75 for this zone since construction has started. 94 members have been connected. Home installs are being scheduled now for the remaining backers in Zone 1 – Ft Gibson. We had to move several backers in the Zone 1 – Ft Gibson across the Lake to Zone 2- Hulbert. These will be connected as we build and connect the backers in Zone 2 – Hulbert. Be sure to register for fiber service before crews complete this zone. We do not want to miss anyone who is interested in the high-speed internet, cable TV or home phone.
Zone 2 – Hulbert - Mapping is complete and mainline construction crews are working in this zone. The goal is to start calling, and scheduling home installs in 2 -3 weeks?
Zone 12 – Sparrow Hawk – Working on the mapping of this zone. Hope to release this zone for construction after Zone 2 – Hulbert mainline work is complete.
Zone 3 – Keys - Mapping is complete. We are seeing steadied backer growth, but we still need more backers in this zone before we release construction crews.
Zone 11 – County Line - Mapping is complete. (Still on hold due to road project) We have electric contractors currently working in this zone relocating our electric lines along the road. Once this is complete, we plan to bring fiber crews back to this zone to work.
The remaining zones are up in the air if we will build them based on the current backers. Please help raise awareness of our fiber expansion campaign within your zone. We need more backers in our fiber-to-the-home project before we release some of these remaining zones into construction. It is up to you the members to help get more backers (neighbors) signed up in these zones before we proceed. You can view the numbers required on the website register.lrecok.net
Southridge Tahlequah - we are conducting a feasibility study. If you live or know somebody who may be interested in fiber-to-the-home services from Lake Region, please encourage these residents to sign up and let us know they are interested. The decision to build fiber into Southridge all depends on the number of backers we can get signed up. Join the crowd and bring Lake Region fiber to your neighborhood.

Are you willing to volunteer to help spread the word and get people involved in our fiber-to-the-home revolution? Campaign volunteers “champions” drive our project! What does this mean? It means you are as excited as we are about our fiber-to-the-home services. (100 Mbps internet speed!) We are interested in campaign volunteers to help spread the message. Once you let us know you are interested in being a champion. You will receive a message from time to time on how you can help spread the word in your zone. From events, handing out door hangers in your neighborhood, to providing feedback. You are one of the most valuable assets we have in our grassroots campaign. At LRTC, we value the privacy, security, and trust of our members more than any financial benefit selling your private information may present.
Congress recently passed federal legislation that could open the door for internet service providers (ISP) to sell the browsing history of their customers to advertisers and others without their permission.
LRTC will never sell your browsing history or other private information to third parties. We are proud to be locally owned and part of the community. It will always be our policy to look out for the best interest of our members.

LRTC Fiber Optics will be down for Routine Maintenance
Lake Region will be conducting routine maintenance, and our system will be down Monday, April 3rd at 2:00 a.m. to have the least effect on our members.
Our system will only be down for an estimated hour. If you have service issues with your internet, TV, or phone system after our maintenance on April 3rd, we ask that you, please restart your ONU. (Smooth top box with bunny ears, picture below) Restart by flipping the physical switch on the back of the ONU. If this does not fix your connection, please call our technical support hotline 888-326-5199, and we will be happy to help.

Construction of fiber optic lines for Zone 11 - County Line is being delayed due to a proposed road widening project. The road widening project covers County line, Six Mile, and Rocky Top Roads. Our electric lines adjacent to these roads must be relocated before we can install the fiber optic cables on them. The road project has been delayed due to some environmental issues. Cherokee Nation is working diligently to resolve the environmental issues. Once we get the green light for the project, we will start construction of the new electric lines and the fiber optic cable that will attach to the new lines. The fiber optics construction crews have proceeded to start construction in Zone 1 - Ft. Gibson. We anticipate that we will be able to start the construction of the Zone 11 - County Line by the completion of Zone 1 - Ft. Gibson main line (backbone) construction.

We love hearing from those who are now using the service and encourage those who are waiting to pre-register - Do Not Wait. Once crews are finished in Zone 5 - Perk, crews will relocate to the next zone and it may be awhile before we can get back to this area. Remember, your electric cooperative is stepping up to the plate to bring the gold standard of broadband internet. We are working hard for you!

“When will fiber come to my home/neighborhood/community?” Is probably the most common question we hear at Lake Region and we understand. You have gone without fiber optic services for a long time, and now the best possible option could be dangling out in front of your home – close enough to touch.
We are in the process of a major construction project, which involves a lot of working parts. We are working with and managing numerous contract crews with a lot of challenging unknowns; weather, road crossings, etc. We are building out fiber optic cable from our electric substations and using existing poles.
1 - The first step is engineering and mapping the fiber network (where the cable will be installed) based on the demand from the Crowdfiber pre-registrations website. (register.lrecok.net)
2 - The second step is hanging the fiber backbone, the main lines with splice points. Once you see the main lines installed on your road, you are 90 days from having fiber optic services at your home.
3 - The third step is another crew will run the drop lines from the main line to your home either underground or aerial, the same way the electric has been run to the home. This crew will also install a NID box on the side of your home if you have signed up for fiber service.
4 - Final step, we will schedule a convenient time for a technician to come to your home and connect your home to the network. Fiber installation can take 1 to 3 hours, depending on the number of services connected. Our technicians are highly trained and will help guide you through the process of where fiber may need to be installed inside your home. Currently, we are in the final step for Zone 5 – Perk, members are being connected. We plan on moving to parts of Zone 11 – County Line and Zone 1 – Fort Gibson next.
We know you are eager to experience our high-speed fiber internet. The plan you order is the actual speed and data limit you will receive. Your experience with our service depends on a number of factors. A lot of older computers, routers, and other equipment are simply not equipped to handle the higher speeds that Lake Region’s fiber offers. So you may need to consider some upgrades to maximize your fiber experience.
In the future, folks in Lake Region’s fiber service area will be able to sign up and get service started in a few days. Those of you waiting patiently in the crowd are on the ground floor of this landmark fiber-to-the-home revolution. We are building a fiber communications network from scratch, with a lot of moving parts, and off of this system we are extending you fiber internet service, HD cable TV, and home phone. We appreciate your patience in our fiber network build.

Backers have been increasing on the website over the last month. However, we still need more backers to sign up and help make this Fiber-to-the-Home expansion project a success. As you can see on the website we now have around 450 backers in the designated expansion zones. We also have around 330 backers outside of the expansion zones who are interested in our Fiber-to-the-Home. This is also a good sign. We will keep monitoring the backer’s locations and we hope to build fiber lines to the areas of the most interest.
No matter where you live, the goal is to get at least 45% of the members in your zone to Join the Crowd. It is possible that a zone is eliminated from Phase 1 due to lack of interest and another zone added to phase 1 because the interest is high in another area.
Some members may have noticed we have engineer consultants in town mapping Zone 1 and 5. These contractors are observing our system and measuring what it will take to build fiber to each home in Zone 1 & 5. If you see these contractors on your property they are conducting work for LREC. They will be collecting GPS coordinates of each one of our poles. Their crews may be using an ATV or a motorcycle and should be clearly identified as LREC contractors.
Keep up the great work and help spread the word. Help us get more members to Join the Crowd, so we can bring fiber to your neighborhood.
8:47am April 11, 2016
In a little over a month, 224 folks have Joined the Crowd.
Some have asked about the zones and what that means. Let us explain. We split our phase 1 expansion area into 10 different geographic zones, primarily by substation. We begin each build at the substation level, so that is the most logical approach to creating fiber campaign zones.
Each zone has a very different makeup in terms of the number of members living within the territory, which is why we used a take-rate approach to establishing goals. Take rate simply means the percent of the homes that take our broadband service to the total numbers oh homes in the area. We need to have nearly half of the residents in a zone subscribe to the service in order for it to be able to pay its own way.
So no matter where you live, the goal is to get at least 45% of the members in your zone to Join the Crowd. It is possible that a zone is eliminated from Phase 1 due to lack of interest in the zone and another zone added to phase 1 because the interest is high in that area.
How do you get others to join the Crowd? Just start talking! Look at the map and figure out who you know in your zone. You can plug in addresses on the home page to determine if someone is eligible (like you did when you signed up), or just zoom in using the map feature. If you’re in the social media, share the website there. Some members are even going door to door to build interest!
With this grassroots campaign approach, YOU the members can help determine where we build fiber next! Join the crowd!
11:29am March 2, 2016
We’re excited to launch this new site, and can’t wait to see how our members engage at a grassroots level to build interest in their zones. While our pilot zone is fully developed and shown in the green portions of the zones map, everything now is up for grabs at this point. So if you’ve joined the crowd, we strongly encourage you to spread the word and get your neighbors, friends, and family on board. If we all pull together we can bring fiber to your neighborhood. Future construction plans may very well be guided by the zones with the greatest interest. We’re working on our end to build the system, and now need you working to spread the word.
Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter so that you can see the latest and greatest construction updates and other great information.
Great things are in store for LREC members as we introduce the broadband revolution! Thanks for joining us, and welcome to The Crowd!
